How do I get an account to use Wolverine Access?

You must have a U-M uniqname and UMICH (Kerberos) password to access secure data on Wolverine Access. If you don't have a uniqname and password, refer to the following document http://www.itd.umich.edu/help/faq/uniqnames/index.html, and contact the Accounts Office on the campus where you work:

Services accessed through the Student Business menu choice are primarily for student use only. If you are an alumnus, you can use your uniqname and UMICH (Kerberos) password to access your student records on Wolverine Access.

Services accessed through the University Business menu choice are primarily for administrators, instructors and staff. In addition to a uniqname and password, University Business users may need to take specific training at http://www.mais.umich.edu/training/index.html before access is granted.

How do I change or reset my UMICH (Kerberos) password?

First, choose a safe password. Guidelines and best practices for password security are online at http://www.itd.umich.edu/your-account/password.html. That page also provides instructions and a link for changing your UMICH (Kerberos) password online.

For security reasons, new passwords cannot be issued to you via e-mail or over the phone. If you forget your password or you need to have it changed for you, you will need to go to one of the following offices:

I'm a faculty member. What information can I view?

Faculty and Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs), and Academic Advisors can use Wolverine Access (University Business > Teaching Support) for the following:

  • Assign Proxy - Instructors have the option to assign a Proxy for a class section via Teaching Support. Assigning a Proxy for a class section allows someone who is not assigned to teach a class to enter and/or approve grades for
  • the class. It is expected that most instructors will enter their own grades.
  • Advising Report - Academic Advisors can view and print Advising Reports for individual students. The Advising Report displays the same information as the Unofficial Transcript, with the following additions: admit term, student groups, test results, student placement test scores, recommendations, and rationales.
  • Degree Audit Report - Faculty Advisors can view and print Degree Audit Reports for indivdual students. The Degree Audit Report is used by advisors and students to determine if requirements for a degree are met or which requirements still need to be completed.
  • Class Roster - Faculty and GSIs can access and export class rosters for class sections they are currently teaching, including lists of enrolled students, waitlisted students, and those who have been granted permission to enroll but who have not yet enrolled. Other Class Rosters features include the ability to customize the information displayed; the option to receive e-mail updates triggered by enrollment; and the ability to send e-mail to all or some of the students enrolled in a class, those who are waitlisted, etc.
  • Faculty Schedules - Faculty and GSIs can access a schedule of their class sections as a list or in a calendar format.
  • Grade Rosters - Instructors and proxies who have been assigned GRADE or APPROVE Grade Roster access
  • for a class section can input (individually or via upload) and/or approve grades using Teaching Support. Grade Rosters are generated on the Friday before the last day of classes.
  • LSA Undergraduate Advising File Access - LSA Academic Advisors can access the LSA Undergraduate Advising File system directly from the Student Details section of the View Advisee Information page in Teaching Support.
  • Student Address Information - Academic Advisors can view Address information for their advisees.
  • Student Enrollment Appointments - Academic Advisors can view Enrollment Appointments for their advisees to determine when students are able to register for classes each term.
  • Student Class Schedule - Academic Advisors can view Class Schedules for their advisees by term.
  • Student Grades - Academic Advisors can view Grades for their advisees by term.
  • Student Telephone Information - Academic Advisors can view Telephone information for their advisees.

What software do I need to use Wolverine Access?

Wolverine Access runs on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. The supported Web browsers and operating systems are as follows:

  • Windows 2000 or XP- Internet Explorer version 6 or 7
  • Macintosh OSX - Safari 1.2, 2.x, or Internet Explorer via Citrix

Where are the instructions for using the system?

  • For students, online help includes definitions for column headings and fields on Web pages, plus hints for using pages.
  • Faculty and GSIs can use the Help button on the navigation bar on all pages in Wolverine Access. Help for the Advising Report includes definitions of terms found in the report. Help for the Class Roster includes step-by-step procedures for each function.
  • Administrative system users should search for specific eLearning courses and documentation on MAIS LINC at https://maislinc.umich.edu.

TIPS:

  • Do not use the browser Back button to navigate. Use the menus, breadcrumbs, navigation buttons, and shortcut keys provided in the application.
  • Navigate to frequently used pages by creating favorites.

Will I be "timed out" of the system if I log in but do not use the system?

The M-Pathways systems running on Wolverine Access will automatically end your session or "time out" when you do not perform a transaction that interacts with the system within the "time out" period. Time out periods vary by system, and are set as follows:

  • Single Login Service - 120 minutes
  • Student Business - 15 minutes
  • University Business - 60 minutes
  • Teaching Support - 60 minutes
  • Employee Business - 15 minutes

Remember: Your authentication to Wolverine Access continues for 120 minutes after your last transaction if you fail to completely log out.

Why should I log out of Wolverine Access?

Always complete the Sign Out and Log Out process when you've completed your work on Wolverine Access and log out of the computer completely (especially if you use a shared computer in a Campus Computing or ResComp Site).

When you are ready to end your session, you should sign out of your M-Pathways session and log out of Wolverine Access and the Web Single Login Service to end your authenticated Web session and ensure that your information is secure. Your authentication continues for 120 minutes after your last transaction if you fail to completely log out. To log out, complete this four-step process:

  1. Sign out of M-Pathways (Student Business, University Business, etc.)
  2. Log out of Wolverine Access
  3. Click Logout on the Logout screen
  4. Click Yes on the Security Alert screen

Who can update their address and phone information on Wolverine Access?

U-M employees on all campuses, retirees, Ann Arbor campus students, and alumni who have a uniqname and UMICH (Kerberos) password can use Wolverine Access (Employee Business) to update their home address and phone number.

Who can view their paycheck information on Wolverine Access?

All temporary and regular U-M employees on all campuses can view their current and past pay stub information on Wolverine Access (Employee Business).

Who can use eBenefits on Wolverine Access?

All benefits eligible employees from all campuses and retirees can view their current and future benefits in Wolverine Access (Employee Business). Newly hired, eligible employees from all campuses can use eBenefits to make their initial elections into benefit plans. Open Enrollment elections can be made by all active benefits eligible employees from all campuses during the Open Enrollment period.

What can alumni do on Wolverine Access?

Alumni can update their home address and phone number information in both the official University database (Employee Business) and the Development Office database (My Alumni Information) in Wolverine Access. Alumni can also perform some activities related to their student records (Student Business), such as view their unofficial transcript or order their official transcript.

Alumni need a U-M uniqname and UMICH (Kerberos) password to use these functions in Wolverine Access. If you don't have a uniqname and password, refer to, http://www.itd.umich.edu/help/faq/uniqnames/index.html, and contact the Accounts Office on the campus where you attended classes:

What is eResearch?

eResearch is a web-based system that centralizes the application, review, and approval process for human subjects research applications into one system used across the University of Michigan.

Who uses eResearch?

eResearch is used by all research teams submitting new or renewing applications for research involving human subjects. Only the principal investigator can submit an application for approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB).

What is PEERRS Certification?

PEERRS, the Program for Education and Evaluation in Responsible Research and Scholarship, is a Web-based instruction and certification program for members of the University community engaged in or associated with research.

Who uses PEERRS?

All U-M faculty who are Principal Investigators or Co-Investigators must be certified in several topic areas covered by PEERRS, accomplished by passing a short test. Other faculty, staff and students who are engaged in human subjects or animal research are also required to obtain certification in these areas. All other members of the U-M research community are invited to use the modules and certification tests to improve their knowledge and awareness of responsible research practices.

How do I obtain PEERRS Certification?

Certification is obtained by passing a short online quiz associated with each module. The link in this section of Wolverine Access takes you to the page that lists the certifications associated with the uniqname used for logon.

Where can I get more information about PEERRS?

A link to the PEERRS information page is found on the research front door (www.research.umich.edu) on the right side of the screen under the Notices heading.

What is PRISM?

PRISM (the Programmed Research Information System at Michigan) is a database that contains administrative and financial data on proposals and awards processed by DRDA, the University's central research administration office. All proposals and awards are keyword coded, enabling searches on the sponsored activities of the faculty.

Who uses PRISM?

Primarily administrators at all levels who wish to track externally sponsored activity in some way use PRISM to obtain information about awarded projects.

How do I use PRISM?

Limited searching is available via the Web. Complex searches are available via BusinessObjects. For assistance, contact DRDA, which conducts searches free of charge for University units, faculty, and primary research staff.
